A current aircraft list is a snapshot. Recording measurements over time makes it possible to ask how the feed changed, compare periods, and build a history around the receiver. dump1090-influx converts compatible aircraft JSON into InfluxDB line protocol.

Choose the ingestion path

The tool can batch writes to InfluxDB 2 over HTTP or send line protocol to Telegraf over UDP. The two paths fit different installations, and their delivery behavior is not identical. Configure the destination deliberately and check ingestion at the receiving end before assuming a successful poll means retained data.

Handle the awkward values

Line-protocol escaping, timestamps, ground-altitude values, and invalid numbers all need explicit handling. The converter treats ground altitude as zero and skips invalid numeric values rather than emitting unusable measurements. Backoff helps avoid aggressive retries when an HTTP destination is unavailable.

Keep input you can revisit

NDJSON recording and replay provide a way to revisit source observations during development or troubleshooting. That is useful when adjusting a pipeline without waiting for the same traffic to appear again. The repository covers configuration for both output paths and the recording workflow.
