A useful receiver installation often grows beyond the decoder itself. A map, metrics collection, dashboards, and alerts each add configuration. dump1090-stack collects those pieces into a Docker Compose setup that can be reviewed and versioned together.
Give each component a clear role
The stack combines readsb and tar1090 with an exporter, Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager. The decoder supplies observations, the interface displays them, and the monitoring components provide a history of service and receiver behavior. An optional raw Beast recorder supports workflows that need to retain the stream.
Configuration is part of the product
Environment-based configuration, validation, and health checks help make setup more explicit. Container definitions alone are not enough: receiver access, storage, network exposure, and retention still need choices appropriate to the installation. Keep credentials and local configuration out of public repositories.
Deploy with real prerequisites
The stack needs suitable receiver hardware or an available feed; it does not create live aircraft observations on its own. Follow the repository's setup sequence, verify each component, and confirm data is flowing before relying on the dashboards or alerts. A reproducible configuration makes that process easier to repeat.
